Abstract

The growth of cryptocurrencies and decentralized finance has increased the need for secure, collaborative systems for managing digital assets. Multi-party crypto vaults distribute transaction control among multiple participants to improve privacy, security, and fault tolerance.

This paper examines two principal approaches: Multi-Signature schemes and Multi-Party Computation. Multi-Signature designs offer fast, scalable approval for real-time applications, while MPC enables participants to compute over encrypted information without exposing private keys.

The study also considers split-key and blockchain-based key management, social recovery, time-locked withdrawal protocols, and resilience when a participant becomes unavailable. It evaluates where MPC is most suitable for high-security, privacy-sensitive applications such as institutional custody and financial systems, and identifies post-quantum cryptography and lower-latency MPC as directions for future work.
